For the casual or beginning observer, the Meade ETX may be all the telescope ever required. For the advanced observer who alreacy owns a larger instrument, the ETX is the perfect ultraportable field telescope. ETX optics are so high in contrast, image brightness, and resolution, the telescope consistently outperforms many instruments of larger apertures, A cordless, internal motor drive system operates from three AA-size batteries that power the telescope for more than 50 hours. Slow-motion controls in both R.A. and Dec. permit smooth manual tracking of terrestrial or astronomical objects; release the manual controls and automatic astronomical tracking is engaged through the motor drive.
